White Rock City Council Honours Local Artists
On Monday, February 4, 2013, White Rock City Council honoured local artists as Community Inspirations during a special celebration.
Nationally and internationally renowned artists that call White Rock home, such as Haida artist Robert Davidson, bassist Jodi Proznick, singer Mark Donnelly, and solo bassoonist George Zukerman, where among the local artists recognized at the special Council meeting.
“Right from the start of our term, this Council has focused on the importance of arts and culture to our community. So tonight, we’re going to do something we haven’t done before, at least not in my memory, we’re going to honour our local artists and acknowledge their valuable contributions to this community,” said Mayor Wayne Baldwin at the start of the meeting.
The Mayor acknowledged that there were many more artists in White Rock than the hour long meeting had time to recognize and confirmed that there will be more opportunities for Council to recognize the various contributions many have made.
Those in attendance and recognized at the meeting as Community Inspirations included:
Spiral Dance Company and their artistic director Loretta Sramek
Jim Adams, visual artist
White Rock Players’ Club and president Dave Baron
Serge Démétrius Dubé, visual artist
Elizabeth Hollick, visual artist
Don Hutchinson, ceramic artist
Chris MacClure, visual artist
Deborah Putman, visual artist
Sheila Symington, visual artist
George Zukerman, solo bassoonist
Mark Donnelly, performance artist in recital, opera, oratorio and music theatre
Jodi Proznick, bassist
Robert Davidson, C.M., contemporary visual artist
