Subject:
Where is the outrage?

Where is the outrage when a prominent researcher for the BC

and Canadian Cancer Society has admitted to allowing herself to be
misrepresented as having a PhD for more than 14 years? Why aren't people
demanding a review of her work and the decisions to which she has contributed?

If she has been dishonest about her credentials isn't it likely she has been
dishonest in her work?

Mary McBride has participated in many important panels and

studies which affect us all. She was named to the prestigious Royal Society of
Canada and participated in the review of Safety Code 6, for

Health Canada,
approving the extremely high amounts of radiation we can be exposed to by cell
phones, transmitters, etc.

She participated in development of Industry Canada's
Antenna Policy, determining that transmitters could be placed near homes,
schools and hospitals, and that the public need not be informed.

She was a
member of the team working on the Interphone Study which, according to most
scientists, was a poorly done, using faulty assumptions and unrealistic
parameters. I am sure there have been more, through the Cancer Society of which

I am not aware.

This is the same Mary McBride, while working at the BC

Cancer Centre with children, who reassured concerned parents that cell
transmitters on schools were safe. She said this while being fully aware of many
studies done by independent scientists showing radiation from these transmitters
pose serious health threats, especially to children.

Why aren't people demanding that these studies and their

results be reviewed? If one person with questionable integrity participated,
perhaps others did. In fact, many involved in these important decisions have
direct ties to the telecommunication industries -- receiving funding both
directly and indirectly. If due diligence was neglected in selecting
researchers, confirming educational qualifications and ensuring no conflict of
interests, aren't the results highly questionable? Why do these very same
individuals work together on panels and studies relating to wireless devices,
over and over again? Could it be because they keep coming up with the same
results, the same results the corporations want?

Where are the investigative journalists who should be

looking into this, who would have in years gone by? Are corporate interests at
work here as well?

The lack of outcry over this deception seems to be a sad

commentary on our current society. We've grown accustomed to people misleading
us, to products making us sick, to our governments not protecting us. As a
consequence we've stopped being shocked or angry when we learn that our water is
no longer fit to drink, our air is filled with carcinogens, and our homes are
radiated by transmitters.

This apathy is what the corporations depend on -- and we get

what we deserve.

Researchers who lie to us, often in return for research dollars
spent on providing results the corporations want. Being told that we need
devices like WiFi and cellphones even though the corporations know the inherent
dangers, and even though there is safe technology that would do the same job but
it costs the corporations more in infrastructure. And, don't forget, our
governmental agencies which depend on corporate financing, such as licensing
fees from telecommunication companies which amount to billions of dollars a
year.

Health Canada will assure everyone that their guidelines are adequate to
protect us, even though they are among the worst in the world, and despite
thousands of studies showing otherwise rather than risk this
income.

Without outrage what kind of world are we leaving for our

children and our grandchildren?

Outraged!

White Rock Council and lead by the Mayor proudly stating 'branding is back on the table' much reserach by Whisper is still valuable and be of use...friends reading this I saw White Rock 1957 for five hours and returned 1988 from a professional life in the fast lanes of Europe and Scandinavia and the USA and the Middle East..wow guys hearing what I am hearing from reading the Peach Arch New this early morning..wow..

Mayor and Council and all the committee assigned members involved in 'branding escapade' give me the impression of and sounds like a 'lonely hearts club'...
The City is spending money like a drunken sailor who hasn't seen shore for six months. Friends 'Hold on to your purses and check your positions with the CFO...i.e your Director of Finances.

But still good to hear the Mayor at last got one marketing savvy communicator and marketing experienced pro onboard.
That's a step in right direction. Add Director of Tourism and you will have two marketing experienced individuals to listen to..please do and give them resources so they can do 'something' which would fill up our empty parking stalls of tourists and visitors to shop and eat inside White Rock.

I fully agree with the signature SemiahmooWR posted 7 hours ago...she or he got it right.
White Rock council and its Mayor cannot wait for the cement/concrete to set around the traffic lights poles at Vidal and Oxford by Marine Drive West before a new brainchild is reborn and our noble local newspaper artists have something new to be creative about.
There is not a dull moment in White Rock..first someone is spending 70 grands because of someone who sits in the US in Orange County and Newport Beach 'whispering' sweet words and 'hubbabubba' in the ears of some truly naive individuals in the City of White Rock..
...people who should focus on real things and issues instead of listening to bla-bla from La-la-land at the tone of $70.000.00..and I don't care if the money is from tax payers in White Rock or Provincial spending pants easing up on their coffers preparing for the next election..or what.
'The lunatics are running the asylum' was the title of a novel I read as a young boy..what's going on in White Rock reminds me of good portions of the novel's content and message.

Make White Rock an eldorado for kids..sailing school when the tide is in and 'sand engineering and castle building when the tide is out. Explore the fauna...care for drinking water and love thy neighbour..classes in all of it can be run and paid for by most parents..at least by parents spending more than hundred dollars per week on restaurant visits or booze purchases. I recommend the Council to take a greyhound bus tour for two days and overnight in Everett Wa.
or borrow the new bus Rita Clarkson bought last year...it will hold 20 passengers and meal baskets..do an outing and discover what they do in Connors and other resort summer and around the year vistas and locales.

Enjoy your excursion and don't leave beffore you have a huge [large] White Rock signs posted and leading visitors from any side of the border to White Rock...give every 50th out-of-Province tourists/visitor an iPhone as an award for finding our little community by the seaside of the Semiahmoo Peninsula. BUT ONLY IF THEY STAY THREE NIGHTS. Sounds crazy..eh?
Not so crazy really considering traffic lights were recently installed and in place, and this frivilous escapade to the tune of half a million dollars plus.
Respectfully

When I saw this story's headline, I cringed. Someone please answer me, as a longtime resident who pays $3100 a year in property taxes, how does "branding" White Rock help me or improve my life? Branding means we'll have 2 or 3 words to describe White Rock. These couple of words will be put on a few signs and some stationary. So after spending five figures of taxpayers money for this indulgence, how does it help me? How has my life improved?
I don't mean to be bitter but "branding" White Rock is an exercise in which pampered council members indulge themselves. Words like soft leisure class immediately come to mind. Several years ago our city councillors saw fit to spend $2 million dollars to "improve/beautify" Stayte road. It was done to give visitors to the city a better impression of White Rock over Surrey. In the end their indulgence eliminated 80% of Stayte road's parking spaces and created a "creek-like" drainage system for appearances only. Yet a two block stretch of Roper between Kent and Findlay is a busy thoroughfare that doesn't have a proper sidewalk, this on a route that students use to get to school. Where is the council's priorities?

In the end White Rock my hometown of 50 years that I home to quietly live. It's not a corporate product for council to promote for the sake of promotion.

White Rock council, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Sharks Bite on Sundays @ Full Moon & You Wear Black&White Contrast Surf/Swim Gear

Most Shark Attacks, Sunday, New Moon

Published on June 07, 2010

GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA, FL

A surfer is most at risk of a shark attack if it is Sunday during a new moon, is in shallow water and is wearing black and white, U.S. researchers found.

University of Florida researchers analyzed statistics from 231 shark attacks that occurred in Florida's Volusia County -- also known as the "Shark Attack Capital of the World" -- from 1956 to 2008.

George Burgess, director of the International Shark Attack File at the University of Florida, says the researchers also spent one year observing people between Daytona Beach and New Smyrna Beach.

"It's basically an analysis of why, where and when in an area that traditionally has had more shark-human interactions than any other stretch of coastline in the world," Burgess says in a statement. "One of our students, Brittany Garner, essentially camped out there, counted the number of heads on the beach and took photographs."

The 47-mile-long section of beach had as much as 21 percent of all global shark attacks from 1999 to 2008.

The researchers say the sharks don't prefer weekends -- more shark attacks occurred on Sunday because there are more people in the water. The phase of the moon is linked to the tides and the black-and-white bathing suits may attract sharks because sharks see sharp contrasts best, the researcher says."

Health Risks From Wireless Technologies
by author Jeffry Fawcett, PhD

Suppose several hundred marine biologists were to study your
swimming pool. A reasonable percentage of them report that you̢۪ve got sharks in
your pool. Would you dive in? Would you let your kids swim in the pool?
According to European reports, cellphone radiation may be the shark in the
water, and it is endangering our health.

Radio frequency radiation–the kind of radiation we’re exposed to
from sources such as cellphones, cellphone antennas, cordless phones, wireless
routers, and other wireless technologies such as the iPhone–may have biological
and health effects. Of the hundreds of studies conducted, 47 percent found
increased cancer risks, 69 percent found disruptions to cell function, 77
percent found disruptions to electrical signalling in the body, and 83 percent
found neurological, physiological, and behavioural effects.

No Proof of a Problem

This evidence has not convinced the major health agencies in
North America to take action. In fact, the North American governments continue
to reassure consumers: Health Canada says, â€Å“There is currently no convincing
evidence, from animal or human studies, that the energy from cellphones is
enough to cause serious health effects.”

Yet a survey by the European Union Commission found that most
Europeans believe cellphones and cellphone antennas damage health. Most
Europeans also reported feeling properly informed on these issues by health
agencies and the businesses that provide wireless technologies.

At about the same time, two events reinforced these concerns. As
with the European Commission survey, these events were covered extensively by
the European media but not at all in the North American media.

WiFi in British Schools

The first event was a BBC television news program broadcast in
May 2007 that reported on schools with wireless networks. The program claimed
that children in those schools are exposed to radiation up to three times the
intensity generated by a cellphone antenna. The program prompted Sir William
Stewart, head of the UK Health Protection Agency, along with the UK̢۪s
Professional Association of Teachers, to call for an immediate moratorium. Some
schools dropped plans to install wireless networks. Others initiated plans to
remove wireless networks.

Health risks exposed

The second event to bring attention to wireless health risks was
the release of the BioInitiative Report in August 2007. An international group
of leading scientists formed the BioInitiative Working Group to summarize what
is known about wireless health risks and to examine the inadequacies of current
standards in light of that evidence.

The BioInitiative Working Group found significant evidence of
harm: cancer (including childhood leukemia), nerve and brain damage, DNA damage,
increased stress response, and decreased immune response. All of these effects
were found at levels of radiation well below the current standards.

Almost immediately upon the report̢۪s release, the European
Environment Agency called for action to establish appropriate levels of exposure
to minimize risk.

Reasonable Evidence of Harm

Why is the European Environment Agency ready to act while Health
Canada and the US Food and Drug Administration are not?

The answer lies in the fact that Europe has a much stronger
public health tradition than Canada and especially the United States. Those who
reassure us that wireless technologies are safe say that a strong scientific
consensus must be reached before they take action. In contrast, the public
health approach taken by the European Environment Agency is to take action when
there̢۪s reasonable evidence of harm.

If you have reasonable evidence of sharks in your swimming pool,
do you protect yourself? Or do you and your kids wait for scientific certainty
as you dive in?
