Starved Humpback Whale Died on East Beach by Marine Dr., White Rock,Tues...

Devastated spectators gathered and showed respect by drumming [Semiahmoo Nation and indian band] in tradition and respect of this event of this sea burial and .... The event which drew citizens interest and curiosity from early morning to see the dead humpback whale stranded off the East Marine Drive White Rock beach where it died,

Futile efforts were made by some citizens to revive this huge animal but to no avail in the early morning.
Indeed a sad day for whale lovers and admirers of our British Columbia super natural environments...and a sad event to view for all of the publich streaqming to see, gawk and in general perhaps learn...something.

White Rock Seaside, Marine Dr. West by Bakerview Park BBQ's in danger. "BBQ's charcoal smells"...states Mayor Baldwin Louise Hutchinson & Grant Meyer in Council agrees!

Dave Chesney Editor of the White Rock Sun writes::

The following is an authentic copy of the posted article [no editing is made].

Oooh What’s That Smell?

It was déjà vu all over again up at City Hall recently.  The topic of banning the city BBQ’s at Bakerview Park once again reared its ugly head.  The outcome was predictable.  Not unlike back in 2001 the council of today not unlike the council of that day wrestled with removing the BBQ’s due to complaints from local residents.

A short history lesson.  Bakerview Park is that little strip of green grass near the boat launch at the end of West Beach on White Rock’s waterfront.  On weekends families flock to the area to take advantage of the BBQ’s and more importantly the picnic tables that dot the grass knoll.  While Mom and Dad lay out the potato salad and pour the Kool-Aid the kids can kick the soccer ball around are play a quick game of tag.

Three council members, Councillors Louise Hutchinson and Grant Meyer and Mayor Wayne Baldwin, want the charcoal BBQ/s gone.  Councillors Helen Fathers, Al Campbell and Mary Wade Anderson back leaving the BBQ’s right where they are.  The deciding vote will be Councillor Larry Robinson at an upcoming Council meeting.

Do the naysayers have a point here?  Is it a classic case of NIMBY?  Councillor Hutchison lives  on Marine Drive near the offending BBQ’s as does Councillor Grant Meyers parents.  Former City Manager Doug Stone who still pulls a lot of drag in this town, also lives across the road.  The negative side is proposing putting in gas BBQ’s.  In order to use the BBQ’s one would have to bring their own propane tank with them.   Possible solution to the problem.

Now I don’t know about you, but I kind of like those beach smells.  They are part of the summer symphony for the senses.  On rare occasions in the early morning hours you can still catch a whiff of a rogue beach fire smouldering on the beach.  Lights up the synapses and transports one back to their childhood, it does.  Having lived on the hillside above the pier in White Rock for years, you always get the smell of the deep fryers in the restaurants kicking into high gear around mid-afternoon.  Should we stop that as well?

I have not heard anyone that wants the BBQ’s moved pull out the health card, in that the burning of charcoal emits carcinogens.  Don’t even go there folks with those coal trains rolling by your front door everyday.  You would have to be burning chunks of charcoal the size of the White Rock itself to compare those health hazards.

If I was a betting man, I would bet Councillor Robinson backs the motion to rid the waterfront of those pesky BBQ’s.  No locals will give a rat's ass.  The locals are not the people that use the picnic benches and BBQ pits.  As a matter of fact locals rarely ever go to the waterfront.
The main users of the BBQ’s are tourists.

You know the group of people our mayor feels fuels our sole economy.

Mayor Baldwin and Councillors Meyers and Hutchinson were solicited to state their feelings on this matter via email. Mayor Baldwin replied:

 Mayor Baldwin

*Yesterday I sent emails to the mayor and the two councillors that are endorsing the removal of the charcoal burning BBQ's.

Here is the mayor's reply

First off it is not about banning BBQs , it is about removing the charcoal burning BBQs installed annually by the city. They would be replaced with a flat metal stand that could be used for gas/propane BBQs.
The charcoal ones give off smells for hours - until they finally burn down. We have had a petition from residents complaining about the smell of the burning coals and the igniter fluids. Moreover, some people don't use coals but instead gather driftwood and burn it in the BBQs because the BBQs have the capacity to allow that. Finally, and equally importantly, we have no way of disposing of the ash so it often gets dumped where it should not (eg the beach).
In this day and age there is no need for charcoal as a fuel source and few people use it so why cater to it?

"White Rock's 2011 Annual Report"

Good afternoon,

I just wanted to make you aware that the 2011 Annual Report, by the City of White Rock, is now available online (http://www.whiterockcity.ca/EN/main/city/documents-library/annual-reports.html). The report will also be available at City facilities for viewing.

This report comes after a year of significant infrastructure improvements and facility renovations within the City. In 2011, as part of our goal to create a sustainable city, over 40 grant projects were completed in partnership with RInC, Build Canada, ICBC, and Translink programs.

A number of City facilities also underwent significant renovations in 2011, including the Kent Street Activity Centre which now has an elevator to increase accessibility.  Other significant renovations include the White Rock Museum and Archives.

In June 2011 the City hosted a celebration to mark the official opening of White Rock’s Centre for Active Living and the Peace Arch Curling Centre. This new, innovative facility is dedicated to helping citizens “live well.”

Last year marked the last term for several members of Council as there was a local government election. The electors voted in a new Mayor and two new Councilors.

As Council looks forward to 2012, they outline their future strategic plans for the year ahead in the annual report.

On June 25, 2012 the public will have an opportunity to comment on the Annual Report at the Regular Council meeting at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.

To read the City of White Rock’s 2011 Annual Report, please go online to: http://www.whiterockcity.ca/EN/main/city/documents-library/annual-reports.html

James Martell on PAD and the Penguins as instituted by Google

Penguins...all but forgotten...Victims of their own negligence..now hear this re web content! An article by James Martell

Hi JOHAN,

Early on in my business career a mentor was fond of saying, "if

you want to keep something a secret put it in a manual"!

Based on the
panic I'm seeing from those hit hardest by *penguin*
:: Google's latest fix for the problem of "low quality links" ::
you'd think all of this came without warning.

Well, I've been warning about getting links from

"badneighbourhoods" for many years now.

And I'm not the only
one.

Yet, one of the most common comments I hear from students

when asked about how many PAD articles they got published is this:
"well,
I haven't quite gotten around to that".

Then they'll add, "but I did
submit to a few of those article directories".

Sorry, an article
directory is not PAD.

Neither is publishing to a blog network; Penguins
main target.

************************************************************************
Let's

refresh your memory on what makes PAD
different
************************************************************************

PAD
stands for Professional Article Distribution.

That's a phrase I coined in
2003 to differentiate content published
on someone else's website compared to content published on your own
site.

We publish professionally written,
feature length content on
another site in order to get a backlink or two.

This establishes a link relationship that triggers an uptick
in
ranking for the URL receiving the link :: if certain protocols are
followed.

PAD articles need to adhere to these rules.

1)

Every article must be unique. You cannot offer that same
article elsewhere
otherwise Google's algorithm detects that and
filters it.

And 100
articles using the same *anchor text* is suicide.

Sorry, no shortcuts
allowed.

2) Only trusted sites are approached. Thin sites or blog

networksare NOT trusted sites within the Google index.

Often these
sites are considered *black hat*.

By publishing thousands pages of
duplicate content on these dodgy
sites you are telling Google that you are *black hat* too.

Before Penguin you may have gotten away with that, but
not any
more.

I've seen sites with over 10,000 unique visitors a day
being
completely removed from Google overnight because they relied on
a high volume of junk links.

3) It's all done organically. Automation
is what killed the blog
networks and article directories. Google's algorithms are smart.
A red flag goes up whenever they see any type of automation
because humans behave differently from robots.

And they know
that.

There is nothing automated with PAD

If you are smarter than
the average bear it should dawn on you that
the strongest feature of PAD is the fact that it takes the creative
effort of humans to get it done.

We hire only the best writers and pay premium.

We approach
only sites that are non-affiliated and have already
earned a decent PageRank (3-6).

Our team often goes back and forth for weeks with webmasters

before that precious article gets published, which results in a
very organic and natural rate of publication.

We have to sell them on
us. And we have to earn their trust.

Our team is about building strong
relationships with other site
owners who rely on us for valuable content.

This is what the SEO guys are not normally willing to
do.

That's why they got hit.

I hope you can see that.

To
your online success!

James
