GQ Magazine Writes in an article about the alledged dangers of CellPhone usage, Risks of Cancers and more...

Warning: Your Cell Phone May Be Hazardous to Your Health

Ever worry that that gadget you spend hours holding
next to your head might be damaging your brain? Well, the evidence is starting
to pour in, and it's not pretty. So why isn't anyone in America doing anything
about it?

Earlier this winter, I met an investment banker who was diagnosed with a brain
tumor five years ago. He's a managing director at a top Wall Street firm,
and I was put in touch with him through a colleague who knew I was writing a
story about the potential dangers of cell-phone radiation. He agreed to talk
with me only if his name wasn't used, so I'll call him Jim.

He explained that the tumor was located just behind his right ear and was not immediately
fatal—the five-year survival rate is about 70 percent. He was 35 years old at
the time of his diagnosis and immediately suspected it was the result of his
intense cell-phone usage. "Not for nothing," he said, "but in investment banking
we've been using cell phones since 1992, back when they were the
Gordon-Gekko-on-the-beach kind of phone."

When Jim asked his neurosurgeon, who was on the staff of a major medical center in Manhattan, about the possibility of a cell-phone-induced tumor, the doctor responded that in fact he was seeing more and more of such cases—young, relatively healthy businessmen who had long
used their phones obsessively.

He said he believed the industry had discredited studies showing there is a risk from cell phones. "I got a sense that he was pissed off," Jim told me. A handful of Jim's colleagues had already died from brain cancer; the more reports he encountered of young finance guys developing tumors, the more certain he felt that it wasn't a coincidence.

"I knew four or five people just at my firm who got tumors," Jim says. "Each time, people ask
the question. I hear it in the hallways."

It's hard to talk about the dangers of cell-phone radiation without sounding like a conspiracy theorist. This is especially true in the United States, where non-industry-funded studies are rare, where legislation protecting the wireless industry from legal challenges has long been in place, and where our lives have been so thoroughly integrated with wireless technology that to suggest it might be a problem”maybe, eventually, a very big public-health problemâ”is like saying our shoes might be killing us.

Except our shoes don't send microwaves directly into our brains. And cell
phones do—a fact that has increasingly alarmed the rest of the world. Consider,
for instance, the following headlines that have appeared in highly reputable
international newspapers and journals over the past few years.

From summer 2006,
in the Hamburg Morgenpost:
are
we are telephoning ourselves to death
? That fall, in the Danish journal
Dagens Medicin:
mobile
phones affect the brain's metabolism
. December 2007, from Agence
France-Presse:
israeli
study says regular mobile use increases tumour risk
. January 2008, in
London's Independent:
mobile
phone radiation wrecks your sleep
. September 2008, in Australia's
The
Age
:
scientists
warn of mobile phone cancer risk
.

Though the scientific debate is heated and far from resolved, there are
multiple reports, mostly out of Europe's premier research institutions, of
cell-phone and PDA use being linked to "brain aging," brain damage, early-onset
Alzheimer's, senility, DNA damage, and even sperm die-offs (many men, after
all, keep their cell phones in their pants pockets or attached at the hip).

In September 2007, the European Union's environmental watchdog, the European
Environment Agency, warned that cell-phone technology "could lead to a health
crisis similar to those caused by asbestos, smoking, and lead in petrol."

Perhaps most worrisome, though, are the preliminary results of the
multinational Interphone study sponsored by the International Agency for
Research on Cancer, in Lyon, France. (Scientists from thirteen countries took
part in the study, the United States conspicuously not among them.) Interphone
researchers reported in 2008 that after a decade of cell-phone use, the chance
of getting a brain tumor—specifically on the side of the head where you use the
phone—goes up as much as 40 percent for adults.

Interphone researchers in Israel have found that cell phones can cause tumors of the parotid gland (the salivary gland in the cheek), and an independent study in Sweden last year concluded that people who started using a cell phone before the age of 20 were five times as likely to develop a brain tumor. Another Interphone study reported a nearly 300 percent increased risk of acoustic neuroma, a tumor of the acoustic nerve.

As more results of the Interphone study trickled out, I called Louis Slesin,
who has a doctorate in environmental policy from MIT and in 1980 founded an
investigative newsletter called Microwave News. "No one in this country
cared!" Slesin said of the findings. "It wasn't news!"

He suggested that much of the comfort of our modern lives depends on not caring, on refusing to recognize the dangers of microwave radiation. "We love our cell phones. The paradigm that
there's no danger here is part of a worldview that had to be put into place," he said. "Americans are not asking the questions, maybe because they don't want the answers. So what will it take?"

To understand how radiation from cell phones and wireless transmitters
affects the human brain, and to get some sense of why the concerns raised in so
many studies outside the U.S. are not being seriously raised here, it's
necessary to go back fifty years, long before the advent of the cell phone, to
the research of a young neuroscientist named Allan Frey. "

GO TO http://www.whiterockreporter.com/node/1656TO LISTEN TO AUDIO OF PRESENTATION

Mr. Russ Davies reports to Council & Madame Mayor 'Cat' Ferguson, White Rock, on recent "AGM" and Board Members Elected.

"A somber oooozzz and the show begun.

White Rock City Mayor and Council met yesterday 25 January 2010 in Council City hall Chambers in White Rock to start the agenda by listening two minutes to Mr. Martin Jevans of White Rock, 'complaints of delay'. 'An issue nearing a two years of delay of a 'safety infrastructure matter. to which presence Mr. Jevans had pointed to a long time ago and now again asked the City to resolve and act upon for 'safety reasons' and so far 'no action taken' and progress of intention had taken place.

Seemingly not a happy camper viewing Mr. Jevans' demeanor. Yours truly was present on-site and did not miss a beat of the rest of the show which I can only deliver to you, by audio from my mobile phone recording
device ..'never leave home without it'. And now on my website.

And yeah..it was a few minutes of stand up performance made by the 'person and BIA campaign manager' for the BIA as now accepted and endorsed and affirmed by the City of White Rock Council and its Mayor and CEO in Charge. Ms. Peggy Clark who received special thanks from Mr. Davies on behalf of the BIA; an organisation which now is acclaimed and affirmed and endorsed [by the City of White Rock] as the 'real BIA' in absence of the pending Supreme Court of British Columbia's decision expected to take place later in March 2010.

This court case is not closed but wide open and on file and in due process... on file and registered and responded upon by the defendants [people today on register with Victoria authorities as the authentic BIA [ http://www.whiterockbia.ca/ ] per vote and now disputed in the Supreme Court by those replaced.

This Supreme Court case begun its activation early this month of January and which The Supreme Court of BC 'found reasons to give a full day in court hearing', and this because of its unique and special character and substantial volume and evidence announced by the defendants, one may assume; such process of hearing by the Judge in early March 2010 and at which full day hearing the Court will decide on the demand of the claimants 'to be or not to be re-instated'..that's the question'.

By those who were replaced and now are asking Supreme Court to be re-instated. 'They did not have time to wait for the verdict to be made by the Supreme Court.

A song well known to many and sung by Elvis Presley is the one with a
refrain;;Wise men say only fools rush in....ta, ta,ta.. and I love to sing it
myself. Was it wise to not heed the advise from the song and its lyrics...? Only the Supreme Court will truly know.

The verbose performance, presentation, you can listen to here.

Yours truly

Windy, cold and warm, and video to the forefront cement changes for generations..

Affilate Marketing ; The Interaction between the

Internet Publishers and their Engaged Product Manufacturers or Service Providers in a
Global Environment; a business made at home.

Affiliate Marketing and Shareasale-ways, glamorous, gorgeous, daunting in its impressive format of business opportunity generating strategies and tactics as applied, is a bone for Internet Entrepreneurs.

Last week's summit and conference is a testament to that. The most recent gathering of the 'faithful and enthused' public of new and long established affiliate marketers took place in Las Vegas last week. For the organisers this large and well attended business event drew attendees from near and afar regions of North America and from abroad.

To put it short. It was a well organised and a 'slam dunk' event and an affair empowering over 4000 people in attendance at the conference named the 'Affiliate Summit West in Las Vegas, Nevada. This I learned from a friend who attended the
event.

Attending were friends of mine since long, Arlene and James Martell of Crescent Beach in
South Surrey, a sister district to White Rock in BC, Canada. They are no newbies to the established and fast growing earning opportunity and work place destination industry on the Internet I choose to call 'referral or affiliate, marketing, which is performed direct from the location of one's home or on travel.

This couple with four children are unique in the way they have been in the business of Internet marketing just about ten years.

James and Arlene are no gurus, and resent being named as such. They are both self-taught, experienced, Internet entrepreneurs and have independently made their living by training collegues and students on the topic of Affiliate Marketing.

This has been going on for over 7 years; 'training students of the affiliate marketing business and website building, [SEO] search engine optimization, and beneficial and important

inbound link building principles, tool software requirements and all pertinent strategies and necessities to learn all there is to learn for
those who wish to successfully pursue and start and to embrace the lucrative,
independent and in part inter-dependent income generating independent business
called, Affiliate Marketing.

The Martells have written books and articles and created a substantial blog and website presence through 'Affiliate Buzz', the Martell Newsletter, and audio programs like one of my 'free faves', the 'Coffee Talk' by James Martell and in
the last year he has fully incorporated the tool made available and useful for
Affiliate Marketers.

To use video for search engine optimization for YouTube and Google and Yahoo as well. Martell has incorporate the medium video in his latest curriculum and study plans and all of which intricate details you can qualify for and receive in part free of charge. It's a goldmine.

The Martell study material and on-line webinars are all parts of a planned and stringent program concept of Internet education changing the world of business for both providers, manufacturers of products and services, on the Internet.

One of the first on the scene and made available to the public 2002 is the today
acclaimed and hugely popular 'Affiliate Marketers Handbook' by James Martell.

Still standing, this book for thousands of readers have become somewhat of a 'bible'
[if the expression can be tolerated] in its field of educating on the subject with the updated and now a 4th Edition is in the works and soon to be released
and available.

Above information to edify and confirm the background and journey undertaken by the
Martell couple since over ten years. See separate Google bio or Wikipedia;
Google the phrase 'James Martell Net Guides Affilate Marketing'

So now we know this. So now what? The major topic at the event in Las Vegas which raised eyebrows and made happy faces all over I understand.

Video -O-Hoy! Oh'Boy!

Now to my foremost subject and interest which is video and video production, video
planning and search engine optimization for specifically video films on the YouTube and Google.
Yes, I am biased and can tell you about that another time. I love video. It's forever. It spells 'economy and savings' for businesses, merchants of all categories and almost any industry and organisation can improve their bottom lines and results in communication'.

First what is YouTube and ..? Here are som information that you may find stunning. YouTube is a power ..'a monster that carries both 'bad and good'.

You can
decide.
Mostly good in my books.

Video and Google and YouTube, each and together, are reshaping our social formats and ways of communicating, cause positive effects such as visualization of reality and increases speed of learning and do reduce literacy.

Video is opening the doors in so many fields that the results become obvious to most.Video is leveling the playing field for generation today aand paves the way for the future of communication and almost serves as an equalizer, of sorts.

From 2009:
Approximate projections for the 2010

YouTube is part of the global Internet.

Adults spend 15+ hours on Internet a Week [wow - really?]

Expected 217 MM US internet Users by 2012 (71% Penetration)

55% broadband access, will grow to 90% by 2012

Online video viewing increased 35% year over the year.

YouTube is the #4 Largest Site on the Internet.

YouTube is the #1 Largest video site on the web.

Immense populations visit and 'YouTube' has over 300MM Worldwide Visitors per Month.

YouTube has over 100
Million Visitors per Month.

5 Billion Video Streams Every month – 40% of all videos online.

(Do the Math – 5
Billion / 300 million worldwide visitors = 17 streams a month per person)
15 Hours of video uploaded every minute,

In August 2008, youtube became the #2 search engine passing Yahoo on Web. #1 is Google and (Google owns YouTube.)

I need to get the following information and personal reflections off my chest and to you today, and this with regards to 'video' and video productions.

In itself and as a 'solitary revenue soldier' moving around 'in the back of my laptop'
and 'Video' is now poking me and urging me to give my readers the news about
the hottest subject discussed on this huge conference; the 'Affiliate [Marketers] Summit West' in Las Vegas. You guessed it right. Video!

This is great news about video; a tool and entertainment source we've had around us and
in our laptops for about three years now. The positive bearings video is sending
to a global market is changing our world, one video at the time.

Most precious updates about traffic and uploads on YouTube [owned by Google] are
stunning in size. ~over 100 million unique visitors are viewing videos on YouTube per month. Right now this day , this week, or month? I am not sure. The figures are staggering.

[Yes I know, we do have global time zones and the world doesn't end with the North
American continent] so digest the YouTube stat with respect for what truly is amazing in our world of communication and distribution of anything from wild movies to smut videos and commercial and scientific content on the millions of
videos uploaded]

Further to the case let's mention also that today more than 15 hours of video new videos are being uploaded by the minute. Correct me if I am wrong. My memory is
sensitive to the continued improvements and changes in numbers of stats. We are
left with the impression video and YouTube are here to stay.

We are all on the cusp to see a media revolution take place in front of our lap top screen
and electronic handheld devices like Android , iPhone, Palm, and Black Berry's;
just to mention those brands serving as vanguards in our cyberspace environment.

Especially perhaps for those important people making money, harvesting revenues from commissions on the Internet, under the title 'affiliate marketers' and Internet publishers the fast rising media and tool, the video is sending marketing people of all categories scrambling to have their videos made, soonest.

During the meet at the summit and conference the words confirmed and endorsed by the
specialists present to professionally dissect 'video' as a noun as well as a verb and specifically as the versatile tool it has become in a short span of a few years.

Will video as such contribute to an improvement in business results, personal revenues and
over all public communication and the national economies? The questions are many. The only certain and verifiable facts are those growing its answers in the escalated plethora of both exciting and scientific 'techie' sources upon which all of us need to rely.

Those facts are simply these:

Video will be and already is a sustainable economical factor in business as performed today
and will be also in the future, if and when. I point to the 'if' which is imperative: 'videos and produced and launched must improve and maintain the
important qualities' like:

a/ Content of high quality worth sharing with the
fellow neighbour or business colleagues or associates and family.

b/ Content of practical, specific intrinsic or general worthwhile educational value to the specific target group of viewers; the audience.

c/ High Quality of camera and recording equipment; HD, Digital since YouTube is now calibrated to transmit and deliver HD standard and video consequently looks a trifle better to the viewer.

d/ Optimizing every facet of production from start to finish; the upload to YouTube channel as designated.

e/ Optimizing tags, description text for SEO...Skype script [Search Engine Optimization]. No marketer wish to be left behind in this onslaught and rush created by the demand
and opportunity for video programs utilization as opened by the giants of YouTube, Vidler, Google Video, and others.

The use of video as an attention and signal indicator for the crawlers of all search engines is perhaps and will be the most heralded improvement for marketing people this year of 2010.

Affiliate Marketing personnel and entrepreneurs will be happy to see their new tool able to support their strategies and tactics; video has become a buzz word big time and there is no stopping either.

To have your content and web-pages rated, ranked and affected by video. And to improve sales and attention for the specific item, service, article, issue, business and
company or organisation or an individual, is truly amazing and very useful and the best news for affiliate marketers and other categories professionals
'making their living in the business of Internet marketing'.

Martell writes in a newly published 'Martell Newsletter' something like this. "View my link to some valuable information, please".

Here is the link my friends. I am pleased to share Mr.Martell's offer with you.

http://jamesmartell.com/tips-techniques/lon-naylor-on-web-video-and-why-it-gives-you-the-advantage/

Now I can let Mr.James Martell and his guest Mr. Lon Naylor, former Microsoft executive and employee and specialist 'tell the rest of the story'..in an amazing web video. Exciting details any Internet pro or novice can appreciate coming from the centre point of the branch I call 'personal direct Internet affiliate marketing'.

And, Yes, I hope you are now as excited about the potential and areas of use of video, as I am.

'Video Is Forever' and a tool embraced today by also the affiliate marketing corps of our societies. Some call it a 'blessing for retailers' and businesses because

conventional newsprint advertising can be reduced by over 60% .That's economy in combination with proven efficacy when video is deployed professionally by business owners.

Another Round of the ongoing White Rock BIA Conflict; My letter to Monique

The Old BIA and the New BIA http://www.whiterockbia.ca Letter 16 Jan. 2010

Dear Monique

Our beautiful sunshine this Saturday morning 'help
sooth my sore emotional bones and soul'.

I ask 'What the heck is wrong with the world and in
particular with White Rock business community and its Old BIA?

Transparency.. my love..just lack of transparency. That's all. I will call you later but just read
what I am 'getting off my chest this grand morning inviting to contemplation and
some brisk walks on the beach and seaside of my White Rock.

Friends, residents and businesses of White Rock BC

Waking up this lovely sun drenched beautiful crisp
morning; a Saturday morning filled with ambiance only the coastal area of our
Semiahmoo Peninsula can
offer visitors, tourists and residents, I just had to unload some of my stuff I
have pondered upon for a couple of days.

There is presently only one BIA assigned, legal and
frozen in its administrative and executive structure. This until the BC Supreme
Court has made its verdict and order.

What brought the Supreme Court of BC into the
picture was not just for 'arguments sake' but it was the former [old and
redundant BIA of White Rock and its directorship which was replaced by a due
legal process provided to 'Victoria'..] who decided to dispute and question
actions which resulted in the old BIA's demise and replacement.

Replaced by a new up to par entity of motivated persons urging for a change and improvement of the five year old organization which had turned stale, trite and nepotistic in its attempts to pursue their mission impossible; And this without any planning in advance . I say: "No Plan -No Business Will Ever Evolve and Develop Out of a Trash Can".

With the Old BIA membership as is, spoon fed special events created by a 'self-proclaimed event executive and planner and some indifferent directors on a unproductive Board of the Old BIA, as an onlooker and many with me could see the disaster and the train-wreck approaching to become a fact in short time. The future for the Old BIA was bleak from the start. It's no more.

The lack of creative and productive leadership capacity was written all over the murals in White Rock. An intensive battle ensued to cover up the fallacies in implementation of mediocre target practice. Graffiti removal did not work to erase traces of incompetence and lack of communication between the stake holders.
Using loose rounds of ammunition to cover up the lack of results and engagements one may expect from a disarranged and discontent merchants community, did not work.

Swiftly, the movie and graffiti 'phenomenon were introduced to keep the 'troops calm and in order'. Those events became the hall marks of result based events and were quantifiable. But it had nothing to do with stimulating business, per se.

A business grad student could have assessed that fact in two minutes.

The Old BIA was created and set to initially and continually improve the climate for businesses; to improve their each business bottom-line and over-all sales.

Old BIA did the filing of an action to dispute the dilemma the Old BIA found themselves in [after having been replaced by the New BIA by and after Registrar and 'Government' had resolute made the decision to have them all replaced. http://www.whiterockbia.ca/

All this after a requisition was submitted to the Government in Victoria, and supported by a sufficient number of voting 'disgruntled members' of the Old BIA. One wanted change.

Go to the website for your personal discovery process. You owe it to yourself if you are in business of doing business in White Rock, BC.

The website will direct you to the present and by too many neglected facts of this debacle which so heavily is negatively affecting our community of White Rock and its reputation, tourism and citizenry.

Until the Court so find reasons to do otherwise in its review of filed protest and grievances put forth by the Old BIA then the legal and authentic body of the new BIA [since July 2009], need to be listened to and recognized as a co-operative at least, and as a 'speaking partner' in the
interim, one would think. This to be expected by all involved, presently and from and in
the past.

The former executive director of the Old BIA is fired. We should all recognize the fact his services ceased the minute the pink slip was issued by the New BIA, and the persons became aware of the fact he was terminated from his position as an employee of the Old BIA.

Still this very day in January 16th 2010 for some peculiar reasons the City of White Rock is not and have not put its actions and plans by by-laws on hold until the appeal made by the Old BIA is overturned or approved by the Supreme Court of BC.

But instead the City has initially said 'it is not involved' and later by its own actions certainly documented the fact 'it is very much involved in the doings of the Old BIA as were and is performing to-date.

And the City officials and staff directorship has been involved in the Old BIA from the very 'get go' by having its [now Mayor Ferguson] own liaison then Councilor Catherine Ferguson [now the Mayor of White Rock] representing the then present Council and its members and staff. Did she exercise 'business savvy and business experience' to oversee and report back to Council members and the then Mayor of the day?

There are many questions one may ask. There are many questions asked by Mr. Anschell [as an example] and they were never answered in full.

As a bystander and entrepreneurial semi-retired marketing professional and business person I am anxiously waiting for 'some common sense and clarity' and transparent engagement to arrive in the horizon and to this community.

A seaside resort on the cusp to bankruptcy
[Besides tax base it's only revenue is a parking lot the city rents to harvest
parking fees from during intensive tourist traffic in summers.

The revenues are not enough to cover the expenditures plagued by indecisiveness, nepotism and 'old boys' club attitudes. I say welcome to you all; the new millennium is here and we all must demand more from the Council and its Mayor today.

For the City to be proposing 'a new start over again' policy for a BIA that failed grossly in its implementation, strategic and tactic planning is truly astounding.

'Who is hiding what from whom and when'?, one may
today ask oneself. So I do and many with me would like some coherent, explicit answers and explanations. Not excuses.

A Soap Opera and a most embarrassing situation is allowed to progress. I am speaking of the neglect of judicial process and 'law and order' one may expect be a natural consequences from all one can read about in the local press, in local websites and in the 'papers' and documents and
minutes provided by the City of White Rock, its Mayor and its Council and its Corporate Chief Executive Officer and delegated staff.

I conclude from the above we all live in a seemingly 'lawless' and non-responsive' society within which anyone can do as he or she pleases. I had better get used to it, I guess? NO! I WON'T.. BECAUSE I AM A TRUE CANADIAN BY CHOICE; since 1988.

Correct me if I am wrong. My email is johanpublisher@gmail.com

Welcome to the wild west and White Rock, BC and a most profound and interesting and relaxing tourist destination located by the Pacific Ocean. Only two hours north of Seattle, Washington State, USA.

Respectfully Yours Truly

Johan

PS/Hon, the phone to City Hall is 604 541 2100 and they now have only Council meetings every so often. [Only God knows why they cut down, reduced their 'In Council hours-duty' last year] call first./DS

NOTICE OF CANCELLATION BIA AGM 18 JANUARY 2010 ELKS HALL WHITE ROCK

As the wind and rain pounded on on the streets of our fair city last night, myself, LARRY ANSCHELL Treasurer of the "newly recognized" BIA Business Improvement Association, BOB YEARSLEY the acting President of said organization and JOHAN SANDSTROM also a Director of the "new BIA" walked the streets of the five business districts in White Rock.
Our mission was to distribute an information letter to the members of the BIA made up of local businesses owners. The letter is designed to inform the business community the scheduled AGM Annual General Meeting called by the "old & ousted" BIA scheduled meeting for Monday evening at the Elks Hall in our humble view has no validity.
NOTICE OF CANCELLATION FOR BIA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING JANUARY 18TH, 2010
Unauthorized information has been recently distributed calling an Annual General Meeting of the White Rock Business Improvement Association for January 18th, 2010 at the Elks Hall, White Rock.
The calling of this meeting was not authorized by the registered Directors of the BIA , and a petition distributed to call this AGM does not conform to the Bylaws of the BC Society Act.
MATERIAL DISTRIBUTED INCLUDES UNAUTHORIZED CHANGES TO THE BIA CONSTITUTION, FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
AND PROPOSED BUDGETS
The White Rock BIA is currently before the BC Supreme Court to determine the validity of the last Directors election July 7th, 2009. Until this ruling is received, further elections and resolutions for the White Rock BIA cannot be filed in Victoria and be deemed effective.
The BC Deputy Registrar has stated “until BC Registry Services receives satisfactory evidence that the dispute has been resolved, the Registry will not accept further filings for the Association”.
A motion was passed by the BIA Board on December 3rd to terminate the employment of Russ Davies in his position as Executive Director, for the continued violation of the governing bylaws of the White Rock BIA. Mr. Davies has refused to release the records of the Society to its registered address and has been responsible for distributing false and unauthorized information to members.
It is the intention of the BIA Board of Directors to hold the next AGM on March 31st, 2010, pending the release of financial records of the Society to its registered address, as required by Section 11 of the BC Society Act.
For more information please visit: WWW.WHITEROCKBIA.CA
For 18 months a group of business owners have banded together to shed some light on the past and the future of the Business Improvement Association in White Rock.
The registrar of the Society Act in Victoria is on record as recognizing the "new Board of Directors" and has clearly stated until the matter is settled by the two parties or by the current court case before the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the "new directors" are the group that is recognized by their office. The matter in their mind is frozen and will remain that way until such time the mater can be settled by the two parties or the courts.
Following the initial court case earlier this month in the courts in New Westminster, the law firm representing the "old BIA" proposed to the "new BIA" a possible sit down to settle the matter. The "new BIA" stated it would be more than willing to participate in such a meeting. LARRY ANSCHELL this week received word from the law firm, the "old BIA" was unwilling to participate in the meeting. They have decided to proceed with the AGM, elect a new Board of Directors, which will include the same old group with the addition of only one new director stepping forward for nomination.
For months now every effort has been made to keep the business community and the City of White Rock informed on our actions. The City of White Rock finance the operation of the BIA through a levy on local businesses. The response from the local business owners to say the least has been under whelming. That was until they received the latest handout from the "old BIA." It has taken an inordinate amount of time but as they say "the proverbial worm has turned."
The White Rock BIA which is coming to the end of its first mandate of 5 years is now asking for a new by-law to be created by the city that will extend their next mandate from 5 to 10 years. They are also asking for a considerable increase in the funding from the city as well as new sweeping powers for the Executive Director that would allow for the Director to have veto power over the board of directors.
At a time when the business community is littered with vacant store fronts and more businesses looking to sell, the time for a fully functional BIA is more pronounced than ever before. The encroachment of new shopping communities at Southpoint and Grandview Corners has put tremendous strain on the health and future of the local business community.
The Monday evening meeting is open to any member of the White Rock BIA as well as guests of business owners.
The "new BIA" will be represented at the meeting. As the matter is before the Supreme Court it will necessitate documentation of the matters discussed at the meeting. In the past the "old BIA" has had difficulty simply attracting enough business owners to establish a quorum for their previous 4 AGM's.
A number of local business owners seemed content to accept the levy administered by the City of White Rock as just another tax. For that mater most business owners were not even aware they were paying the levy, as the city actually sends the bill to the commercial property owner. The majority of the commercial property owners simply rolled the levy into the triple net of the business owners rent, and by not breaking it out and informing the business owners - many were unaware they were paying the levy.
Under the proposal that will be put forth by the "old BIA" Monday evening the mandate will double from 5 years to 10 years, with the levy increasing annually. Previously on average business owners were stuck with roughly a $4,000.00 levy over the course of the 5 year mandate. With the new graduated 10 year levy those same business owners will on average be hit with upwards a $10,000.00 levy.
The City of White Rock and the "old BIA" just might have hit the tipping point.
Monday's evening will no doubt answer some questions as a number of merchants will be in attendance with some tough questions for the "old BIA." The "new BIA" will be on hand to continue to advance their causes from the very beginning of this sordid tale.
1. A full and open disclosure of where the money has been spent over the past 5 years.
2. An open and accountable BIA that will advance the interests of the business community of White Rock.
3. Making the City of White Rock accountable for the money they have taken from the local commercial property owners in order to fund the BIA.

UPDATE 10:00 a.m. Friday January 15, 2010

LARRY ANSCHELL Treasurer of the "new BIA" reached the registrar
of the Society Act in Victoria this morning. RICHARD RODGERS stated he had
restated to the "old BIA" the Registrar's office would probably only validate
the AGM if the meeting had been approved by both parties. RODGERS stated his
office would wait until next week to rule on the validity of the AGM called
Monday evening by the "old BIA."

The Registrar's Office in Victoria is on record as stating the
White Rock BIA Board of Directors (New BIA) has been frozen until the two
parties are able to reach a resolution or the court case in the Supreme Court of
British Columbia rules on the matter. The court case is to request the Supreme
Court to quash the election of the "new BIA." This confirms what the "new BIA"
has maintained all along. Until such time as there is common ground found
between the two parties or the court rules, the "new BIA" is the legally
recognized by the Registrar's Office in Victoria.

ROGERS also stated the information being circulated by the "old
BIA" that a Parliamentary representative was now involved had not been
registered with is office. RODGERS stated he had put this option forth to the
"old BIA" as an option to solve the problem but had not received any
confirmation this had occurred. Neither ANSCHELL or any of the other directors
of the "new BIA" have heard from any "Parliamentary" representative regarding
their involvement in the matter.

Open letter to Librarians, Library Administrators and Visitors to Libraries.

ALERT: WiFi Hotspots in Libraries may be Harming Staff and Visitors and may
Prevent Access to those with Medical Implants.

I was asked to write an open letter about WiFi in libraries and am
attaching a pdf of that for those who can use this information to
help convince libraries to go with wired connections rather than
wireless. It has information about electromagnetic interference
(EMI) for those with medical implants so will be new information for
some of you.

The same material is on my website but with live links. So please go
to www.magdahavas.com for the live link "Open letter." You will note
there is one for libraries and one for schools, both written at the
request of women who care.

Forward to those who need to know.

Thanks,
-magda
